What is Applied Behaviour Analysis?

ABA

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is the science of behaviour. It helps us understand how behaviour is influenced by the environment and how meaningful, lasting change can be achieved through thoughtful, evidence-based support. By carefully observing patterns and responses, ABA allows us to identify what supports learning, communication, and independence.

ABA focuses on teaching new skills, strengthening communication, increasing independence, and reducing barriers to learning. These skills are taught in practical, meaningful ways that can be used in everyday life, supporting individuals to participate more fully at home, in school, and in the community.

At BCBA-Collective, ABA is not about compliance or control. It is about understanding why behaviour happens and using that understanding to create environments in which individuals can succeed. Behaviour is viewed as a form of communication, and our role is to listen, respond, and teach skills that make that communication more effective.

We use positive, respectful approaches that prioritise motivation and engagement, functional communication, emotional wellbeing, and each individual’s unique strengths and preferences. Support is always tailored, collaborative, and delivered
